Counting of votes on in the Presidential poll

The counting of votes in the presidential poll is on in Parliament House. Latest reports say, counting of votes of Members of Parliament has been concluded.
Talking to reporters, Parliamentary affairs Minsiter Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, who is also the official representative of Mr Pranab Mukherjee, said out of 748 votes of MPs, 733 were found valid. UPA's nominee Mr Pranab Mukherjee got 527 votes while former Lok Sabha Speaker polled 206 votes. Fifteen votes are found invalid.

AIR correspondent reports, that the process of counting began at 11 this morning in the presence of authorised representatives of both the candidates. The results are likely to be declared late this afternoon.

Besides the UPA and its supporting parties SP, BSP, RJD, JD(S), NDA partners JD U and Shiv Sena have also extended their support to Mr Pranab Mukherjee. CPIM, YSR Congress and Forward Bloc have also lent their support for the UPA nominee.

Former Lok Sabha speaker P A Sangma jumped in to the fray with initial support of the BJD and AIADMK. The BJP and Akali Dal decided to back him. Mr Sangma had quit NCP, the party which he founded with Mr Sharad Pawar to contest the presidential election.

New President will be administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of Inida on Wednesday at the historic Central Hall of Parliament.
