Counting of votes for Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana has begun. Final resluts are expected by this afternoon. In Maharashtra, while counting is taking place at 269 places, in Haryana, it is being carried out at 57 places.
Elections for 288 member Maharashtra Assembly and 90 member Haryana Assembly were held on Wednesday. While 4,119 candidates including 276 women, were in the fray for Maharashtra Assembly, 1,351 contested Haryana Assembly polls.
While trends will be available soon after the commencement of counting, the final results are expected by late afternoon or evening. Election Commission will display trends and results through its website www.eciresults.nic.in.
Counting of votes for Beed Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra and Kandhamal Parliamentary constituency in Odisha is also taking place today. Counting for bypolls to Rajkot (West) Assembly seat in Gujarat, Northern Angami-Two Assembly seat in Nagaland and Kanubari Assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh is also underway.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around the counting centres to ensure peaceful counting. In Maharashtra, 320 companies of central Para military forces have been deployed in addition to state police and security forces from other states. CCTV cameras have been installed at all counting centres. Observers and micro observers have also been deployed at each counting centres.
AIR Correspondent reports, process of counting of votes has just begun. Strong rooms where EVMs have been kept under security of Central Para Military forces are being open in the presence of agents of political parties and observers from the Election Commission.

About 35 Thousand poll personnel have been deputed for counting under supervision of observers deputed by the commission for every constituency. The Commission has deputed additional observers to look after the counting.
Victory processions are not banned after announcement of results. BJP and Shiv Sena both are confident about getting public mandate to form the next government in the State on its own strength. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has hoped that its long-time ally BJP should extend support in case it falls short of numbers.
He has said that He said Sena and BJP had shared good ideological ties for the past 25 years and Shiv Sena is part of the NDA. BJP has not opened its cards.
