Counting of votes for four Assembly elections today

The counting of Assembly votes in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi will take place today. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting, which will begin at 8 AM. Early trends are expected by 8:30 am.

Polling was held in two phases in Chhattisgarh, while Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Delhi went to polls in a single phase. Counting of votes in Mizoram will be taken up tomorrow.
The polling process came to an end on Wednesday.

In Delhi, 810 candidates are in the fray for 70 seats. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is facing a tough battle from Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal and BJP leader Vijendra Gupta at the New Delhi constituency. BJP Chief Ministerial candidate Dr. Harshvardhan is seeking his fifth term from the Krishna Nagar seat. Our correspondent reports that the highest ever voting turn out of about 66 per cent was recorded in the polls, which took place on Wednesday.

In Chhattisgarh, counting centres have been set up in all 27 district headquarters and elaborate security arrangements have been made in the Maoist affected areas. Our Raipur correspondent reports that the State Election Commission has directed to count postal ballots along with the counting of votes polled, through EVMs. In the 90-member state assembly, 77 per cent votes were polled.

In Madhya Pradesh, tight security arrangements have been made in all the 51 district headquarters. Our Bhopal correspondent reports that the entire counting process will be video-graphed. Over 70 per cent polling was recorded in the state on the 25th of last month.

Over 81 per cent polling was recorded in 40 constituencies of Mizoram. The state went to the polls on the 25th of last month.In Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, State BJP President Vasundhara Raje and Chairperson of the National Women Commission Mamta Sharma are the prominent candidates, whose political fate will be decided today. A total of 2,087 candidates are in the fray. 75 per cent votes were cast in 199 constituencies, which went to the polls on the 1st of this month. 37 counting centres have been set up.

The News Services Division of All India Radio has made special arrangements for the broadcast of the latest trends and results. Experts in Delhi studios will interact with the correspondents and experts in Jaipur, Bhopal and Raipur and analyse the election results. The News Services Division will also broadcast hourly special news bulletins in Hindi and English with latest updates.

The duration of Midday News and Dopahar Samachar have been extended by 15 minutes each.
All India Radio Stations in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have also made elaborate arrangements at the local level to broadcast election result related developments.
