In Nepal, counting of votes for the first phase of local elections is underway. Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has won 5 posts of Mayor/Chairperson and leading at 81 places. <br/><br/>Nepali Congress has won 2 and is leading in 78 local bodies. Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) has bagged one and is leading at 57 places. For Deputy Mayor/Vice Chairperson posts, Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has won 3 and leading at 58 places. <br/><br/>Nepali Congress has also won 3 and leading in 60 and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) won at one place and leading in 45 local bodies. Two Independent candidates have also been elected for Mayor/Chairperson and Deputy Mayor/Vice Chairperson post. <br/><br/>Local elections were held yesterday after a gap of 20 years. 73 percent voters exercised their franchise in 34 districts of 3 provinces. Voting was held in 281 local bodies out of 283.<br/><br/>Representatives for two local bodies have been elected unopposed. Polling in remaining 4 provinces will be held in second phase on June 14. <br/>
