In Nepal counting of votes for first phase of local elections has begun and results are expected from the afternoon. Local elections were held in Nepal yesterday after a gap of 20 years for 281 out of 283 local bodies. Representatives for two local bodies have been elected unopposed. <br/><br/>73 percent voters exercised their franchise in 34 districts. More than 49000 candidates have tried their luck in the first phase of local elections. Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav expressed gratitude towards voters for the overwhelming participation in the local polls. <br/><br/>He said that the enthusiastic participation of voters from all walks of life will encourage the voters during the second phase of elections on June 14.
