Counting of votes for final phase of local body polls underway in Nepal

In Nepal, counting of votes for the third and final phase of local body elections is underway. The first result has gone in favour of newly formed Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN).The party has won Mayor and Deputy Mayor post of Hasanpur Municipality in Dhanusha district. <br/><br/>As per the latest reports for the posts of Mayor/Chairperson, Nepali Congress is leading in 25, Communist Party of Nepal (UML) in 13, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) in 13, Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal also in 13, Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum of Nepal in 11 and Nepal Loktantrik Party leading in 5 places. <br/><br/>For Deputy Mayor/Vice Chairperson posts, Nepali Congress is leading in 20, Communist Party of Nepal (UML) at 16, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) in 12, Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal at 10, Nepal Loktantrik Forum in 2 and other are leading at 2 local bodies.<br/><br/>Polling for 136 local bodies in province 2 was held on Monday. According to revised figures given by the Election Commission, 77 percent voters exercised their franchise to elect 6627 local representatives. Local elections in Nepal were held after a gap of 20 years.
