Counting of votes has just begun for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh amid tight security. The ruling Congress-NCP combine is locked in a direct fight with the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra. The MNS and the BSP are also in the fray for the 288 member Assembly. In Haryana, the major fight is among the ruling Congress and the Opposition INLD, BJP and Haryana Janhit Congress. In Arunachal Pradesh, three Congress candidates including Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu have already been elected unopposed in the sixty member Assembly.In Maharashtra, the counting is being held at 288 centres. Over 1.29 lakh state police and central para-military personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful counting of votes. Adequate number of Central Para Military Forces have been deployed, mainly in naxal-infested districts like Gadchiroli, to assist the police. In Haryana, Counting is being held at 90 centres for an equal number of seats. Adequate Central Security Forces have been deployed to ensure smooth conduct of counting.In Arunachal Pradesh, counting of votes is being held in 17 centres.The News Services Division of All India Radio will broadcast a special live bilingual programme in Hindi and English today from 0830 am to 2 pm on the counting of votes for Assembly elections. Experts in Delhi studios will interact with Correspondents in the three states on the trends and the results.News Bulletin in English at 6 pm will be extended upto 6.10 pm followed by news Bulletin in Hindi till 6.20 pm.News Services Division will also broadcast a special live bilingual Phone-in programme from 9.30 to 10.30 tonight on the verdict of the assembly elections. The LIVE discussion and the Phone-in Programme will be available on Rajdhani and FM Gold Channels and additional frequencies.
