‘Counting for Assembly polls to start tomorrow

Counting of votes for Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh will begin at 0800 hrs tomorrow amid tight security. In Maharashtra, the counting will be held at 288 counting centres. It will decide the political fate of 3,536 candidates. Over 1,820 independents.60 per cent voting was recorded in the polls held on the 13th of this month. Over 1.29 lakh state police and central para-military personnel have been deployed to ensure peace. Director General of Police in-charge of elections, A N Roy, said that adequate number of Central Para Military Forces have been deployed, mainly in naxal-infested districts like Gadchiroli, to assist the police. Meanwhile, Mumbai police have also made elaborate arrangements for trouble-free counting in the mega polis. In Haryana, Counting will be held in 90 centres for 90 seats. Adequate Central Security Forces have been deployed in the A total of 1222 candidates are in the fray. About 70 per cent voters had exercised their franchise. In Arunachal Pradesh, the fate of 154 candidates in 57 assembly constituencies will be decided tomorrow. Three Congress candidates including Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu have already been elected unopposed. Counting of votes would be taken up simultaneously in all the headquarters of the total 16 districts in the state, besides one in an additional district headquarters. The News Services Division of All India Radio will broadcast a special live bilingual programme in Hindi and English tomorrow from 0830 to 1400 hrs on the counting of votes for Assembly elections.
