Counter terrorism and regional cooperation figure prominently in discussions between India and Tajikistan in Dushanbe

Counter terrorism, cooperation in energy and other strategic areas figured prominently in the delegation level talks in Dushanbe between the visiting Vice President, and Tajik President, Emomalii Rahmon.

AIR correspondent covering the visit reports the two countries India agreed to strengthen further bilateral relations in energy sector , IT, Health, Education and establishment of small and micro industries.

Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari and President of Tajikistan, Emomalii Rahmon, they also exchanged views on regional peace and security. The two sides agreed that nations in the region as well as the international community should strengthen Afghanistan's capacity to maintain peace, stability and prosperity of the Afghan people.

Ansari, who is on a four-day goodwill visit to Tajikistan, is the first Indian Vice-President to ever come to the central Asian country.

AIR correspondent adds Ansari's visit is a part of India's connect Central Asia policy, unveiled last year, aimed at greater political,

economic and people-to-people engagement with Central Asian nations like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
