The 51 hour countdown for the launch of PSLV C -14, from the Satish Dhawan Space centre at Sriharikota began at 9 am this morning. ISRO sources told AIR Chennai correspondent all operations for the launch scheduled for 11.53 am on Wednesday is progressing smoothly. The sources further said weather conditions are normal for a smooth launch. The trusted launch vehicle of ISRO PSLV in its present mission would carry India’s 960 kg ocean monitoring satellite Ocensat 2 and six other Nano satellites from abroad. The Nano satellites Cubesat 1, 2, 3, and 4 besides Rubin 9.1 and 9.2 whose weight ranges from 2 to 8 kgs are educational satellites from European universities and are intended to test new technologies. Oceansat 2 is the sixteenth remote satellite of India and has the shape of a cuboid with two solar panels projecting from the sides. The eight band ocean color monitor carried by Oceansat 2 can image a strip of land or ocean of 1420 km with a resolution of 360 meters and works in the visible and near infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The satellite also has a 64 GB solid recorder to store imagery which could be received later.
