Council of FMs meeting reviews preparations for forthcoming SCO summit

The Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation this evening reviewed preparations for the forthcoming SCO summit as well as exchanged views on regional and international issues.<br />'' <br />''Briefing media virtually this evening, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said the meeting was followed by lunch in which Ministers of Russia, India and China took part. <br />'' <br />''Dr S Jaishankar has had bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers of member countries on the sidelines of CFM meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Moscow.<br />'' <br />''This is the 3rd Council for Foreign Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation which India is attending as a full member. The spokesperson said Dr Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov yesterday. He said India has a special and privileged partnership with Russia and this year marks 20 years of the strategic partnership. This was the first physical meeting after the COVID situation and there was excellent discussion on bilateral matters, regional developments, and international issues of concern. The two Ministers also followed up on outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Vladivostok for the fifth Eastern Economic Forum in September last year.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;"> In this meeting, bilateral economic issues, and cooperation in the development of Far Eastern Region of Russia was also discussed between the two Ministers. Cooperation in nuclear and space sector was also discussed. The two Ministers agreed to work closely in the UN Security Council during India's forthcoming tenure as a non permanent member.</span><br />
