There will be no restrictions on the export of cotton in the next crop season beginning October. Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar told reporters in New Delhi that cotton export will be under Open General License for the next season. The decision was taken after deliberations by the Ministers of Finance, Commerce and Agriculture. Mr Khullar said that cotton production is pegged at over 35 million bales while the domestic demand will be around 26 million bales in the coming season. This, he said, will leave ample room for cotton export. It may be noted that exports were put on the restricted route early in the current season after the domestic textile industry was hit by high commodity prices.
