President Pranab Mukherjee has said corruption needs to be treated like a disease and focus should be on prevention. He said, it affects the growth of a nation and creates inequalities in distribution of income and wealth. In his message, on the occasion of the Vigilance Awareness Week, Mr Mukherjee said, corruption is a major factor hindering development. He also called for reaffirmation of commitment to make India corruption free and engage in ceaseless efforts to achieve this goal.<br/> <br/>President said, it is appropriate that the Commission has adopted the theme of Preventive Vigilance as a tool of Good Governance for the current year. Mr Mukherjee said, the measures adopted for Preventive Vigilance will help not only reduce corruption but also contribute towards good governance by way of increasing efficiency, transparency and adherence to rule of law.
