Government today said that the corruption in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme has been stopped by making payment of wages directly to the bank accounts of labourers and strengthening the monitoring system. <br/><br/>During the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha , Minister of State for Rural Development Ram Kripal Yadav claimed that there were a number of deficiencies in the scheme and the government has taken several measures to improve the transparency. <br/><br/>The Minister said, the budget for the MGNREGA has also been raised by 5,000 crore rupees to 43,500 crore rupees for this fiscal. Mr Yadav also made it clear that the scheme will not be closed but it will be strengthened. <br/><br/>He said, the government had provided employment to around 4.82 crore families in 2015-16. He added that the government's priority is to create more jobs and also set up assets especially irrigation and farm sector.
