The Sikkim High Court on Tuesday pronounced a jail sentence of one month to former Sikkim Chief Minister Mr. Nar Bahadur Bhandari in a corruption case filed by the CBI . The case is related to offences pertaining to works of rural water supply schemes under the Rural Development Department of the State Government during 1983-84 . He was accused of abusing his position and criminal conspiracy while awarding the contract works to the local contractors, as the then Chief Minister of the State.The High court though upheld the 2008 judgement of the Trial Court, modified the sentences. As per the judgement pronounced by the Acting Chief Justice Mr. Justice Sonam P. Wangdi on Tuesday, Mr. Nar Bahdur Bhandari will have to serve one month imprisonment against the six months term awarded by the Trial Court.The co-accused and former Chief Secretary, who was then the Rural Development Secretary, Mr. PK Pradhan’s sentence of imprisonment , as awarded by the Trial Court, was set aside by the High Court.
