Copenhagen Summit to focus on draft on Kyoto Protocol and Bali action plan

New Dellhi says that a three page draft prepared by the Danish Prime Minister will be the focus of discussions on the last day of the Climate summit in Copenhagen. Highly placed sources said the draft has been prepared on the basis of the reports submitted by the two groups constituted to examine the Kyoto Protocol and Bali Action Plan. The sources did not rule out a short communiqu’ at the end of the summit, on the basis of the draft.The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who arrived at Danish Capital late last night, is likely to make a strong pitch to continue negotiations on contentious issues even after the summit. In his brief intervention at the plenary, Dr. Singh may also impress on preserving areas where consensus have been reached including the Kyoto Protocol, Bali Action Plan and United Nations Framework Convension on Climate Change (UNFCCC). AIR correspondent reports that Dr. Singh will meet his Chinese counterpart Wen Jibao and discuss the way forward in consolidating the stand of developing countries at the summit.Earlier, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the sustained pressure by the developing countries led to the resumption of the two-track climate negotiations in Copenhagen. He said, the negotiations resumed on the two tracks.
