Policeman-turned-rebel Champion R Sangma, who co-founded Garo National Liberation Army in Meghalaya has been arrested by state Police. Champion was produced in a local court which remanded him to 14 days police custody. Following a tip off that some militants would be crossing over to India from Bangladesh, a special police team was deputed which intercepted the ultra leader, who was later identified as Sangma, police said. GNLA, a GaroHills-based outfit, was declared a terror organisation for killing security personnel and civilians, besides incidents of abduction andextortion.
