President of Nepal, Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that collective cooperation and support among the Hindu Kush Himalaya(HKH) nations is crucial for the well being and overall development of the region. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the international conference on "Resilient Hindu Kush Himalaya: Developing Solutions towards a Sustainable Future for Asia" in Kathmandu on Sunday, President Bhandari said that task of nature conservation cannot be confined within national boundaries. <br/><br/>She stressed upon the need to increase biodiversity conservation efforts in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region focusing on income generation and enhancement of living standard. <br/><br/>President Bhandari said that only mutual collaboration among the mountain range will make this possible and effective. <br/><br/>The conference is being organised by the Ministry of Population and Environment, Government of Nepal and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). <br/><br/>Around 400 experts from around the world including India are participating in the four-day conference. They will deliberate on various issues for strengthening the fragile environments and communities of Hindu Kush Himalaya and solutions to create effective and sustainable changes to improve mountain livelihoods. <br/><br/>The Hindu Kush Himalaya, a mountain range that spans from Afghanistan to Myanmar sources 10 major river systems in Asia that provide water, ecosystem services and livelihoods to more than 210 million people. <br/><br/>The region holds and distributes water for more than 1.3 billion people living in downstream river basins. <br/><br/>Climate change and other drivers of change in the region have already begun to impact ecosystems and communities increasing vulnerability and exposure to natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and landslides.
