A clear convergence of views on counter terrorism and security has emerged at the meetings the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had with leaders of ASEAN countries during his visit to Brunei and Indonesia.
Briefing newsmen on board the special aircraft returning to from Jakarta today the external Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that the ASEAN leaders expected more participation by India in world governance. Khurshid said the recent incidents at the line of control with Pakistan are upsetting and unwelcome.
He said India wants normalcy and borders and we welcome Pakistan Prime Ministers concern for better relation with India. He hoped the meeting of Directors General Military Operations DGMO of both countries agreed earlier last month will take place soon. The meetings can identify why such violations occur at the LoC and the border. Anand Sharma, Commerce Minister also addressed the media and said that we have made progress in improving trade and commerce with Pakistan. He said, the way forward is to enhance economic engagement.
Khurshid said there are some unresolved issues at the border with China as perception differ. But there are mechanisms in place to deal with such issues. He regretted that some Indian archers could not go to China recently to participate in sports events due to lack of proper visas.
