Convergence, communication & content key to leveraging DD AIR reach: Prasar Bharati CEO

The Chief Executive officer of Prasar Bharati, Mr. Jawahar Sircar said that Akashwani and Doordarshan which have the largest reach in the country, can encash on it through the means of convergence, communication and content improvement. He was speaking at the Prasar Bharati South Zone Coordination meeting in Bangalore today. He laid emphasis upon convergence of efforts between Doordarshan and Akashwani. He said focus should be to provide news on mobiles and adapt new technologies. He disclosed that an agreement is being worked out to upload contents on to Youtube. He pointed out that regional contents prepared by different stations, can be dubbed into Hindi and other languages for broadcasting to larger audience. He informed that efforts are on to fill vacancies and promotion avenues speeded up to improve the potential of Prasar Bharati.
Speaking on the occasion, DG(News) of All India Radio, Mr. G Mohanty highlighted that public interest news should get more prominence and information about government programmes like NREGA or NRHM should reach to people, using innovative ways. DG(News) of Doordarshan said that public broadcaster has largest network of Stringers and Correspondents spread across the country, which can generate varied contents for the news bulletins. He however said, these need to be synergised. The Member (Finance) Mr. A K Jain, DG (AIR) Mr. L D Mandloi and other top officers spoke in the meeting that was attended by regional Heads from News, Engineering, Programme and Marketing divisions of Doordarshan and AIR.
