Convention on RTI stresses need to reduce pendency of applications

The convention on the right to Information has stressed the need to reduce the pendency of applications and spread awareness about the Act in rural areas. The speakers at the convention which concluded in New Delhi today felt any amendment in the Act should be to strengthen the RTI and not to restrict it. The Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah who briefed media on the outcome of the deliberations also called on the government to take all necessary steps to ensure proactive disclosure being disseminated as mandated by the Act. The Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India Nandan Nilekani has also proposed the collaboration between UID and RTI which can benefit both for inclusive development.
