Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalitha has urged the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of Chief Ministers to discuss the roles of centre and states in countering terrorism. In a letter to Dr Manmohan Singh, Ms. Jayalalitha recalled her earlier letter wherein she had objected to the constitution of the National counter terrorism centre without consulting states. She said the establishment of the NCTC is an attack on the federal structure of the Constitution.
Expressing surprise over the Home Ministry convening a meeting of State Chief Secretaries and Police Chief’s on the 12th of this month to discuss the NCTC, Ms. Jayalalitha said the meeting will not serve any purpose as larger issues concerning the constitution were involved and with many chief ministers expressing their concerns of the establishment of the NCTC. Stating that terrorism is an evil monster that should be eradicated with ruthless aggression, Ms.Jayalalitha said states and the centre should work together to end this scourge.
