Gujarat IPS officer accused in Sohrabuddin Shaikh and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case DG Vanzara has tendered his resignation accusing state Government for betraying him.

Suspended IPS officer Vanzara has been in jail for the last seven years for his role in three fake encounters -which include 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter and murder of his wife Kauserbi, 2006 Tulsiram Prajapti encounter and 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter.

In his 10 page resignation letter addressed to Additional Chief Secretary of the state, Vanzara blamed the Narendra Modi Government of exacting political mileage out of the encounters and dumping foot soldiers like him in jail. Vanzara expressed his lack of confidence in the Gujarat Government and blamed it for failing to protect him and other cops accused in the fake encounters.

AIR correspondent reports that Vanzara's resignation amounts to his renunciation of his post- retirement benefits. Earlier, another accused in the same case IPS GL Singhal had also resigned on almost the same ground.
