The government today said contracts for the construction of more than 7,300 kilometers roads will be awarded by the end of current financial year. Addressing a conference on Public Private Partnership on National Highways in New Delhi, the Road, Transport and Highways Minister Dr. C. P. Joshi said that this will harness private investment of over 50,000 crore rupees.
He said that out of India's highways network of 71 thousand kilometers, upgradation projects for about 16 thousand kilometers have been completed, while about 15 thousand kilometers are in different stages of implementation of being awarded. Dr. Joshi informed that concessions for six laning of about half of Golden Quadrilateral have been awarded.
