The Consumer Commissions has received nearly 5 lakh complaints during the last three years in the country and over 94,000 cases filed in National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and State Commissions across states. In a written reply in Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey said, the Department of Consumer Affairs generates consumer awareness through video spots, banners, hoardings and posters on issues of like salient features of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, Packaged Commodities Rules, Hallmarking and Consumer Grievance Redressal mechanism.
Mr. Ashwini said, The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 provides for establishment of a three-tier quasi-judicial mechanism – District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, where consumers can file consumer complaints for redressal.
