Consistency & performance over time gave India top spot in ODI: Dhoni

Indian Skipper M.S.Dhoni received on Monday, in Cardiff, the ICC ODI Championship Shield and a cheque worth US$175,000 for being the number One ODI team on the cut off date of April 1. Dhoni along with his team is preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy in England these days. After receiving the shield he said that it was a proud moment for the entire team and a huge achievement which is just the beginning. The Indian skipper said that consistency and good performance over a period of time have got the number-one spot for team India The Indian team claimed the number-one spot from England after winning the series 3-2 in January. Over the last 12 months during April 1.2012 – 2013, India won eight out of 13 ODIs and lost five of them. This is the first time since the current ranking system was introduced in 2002 that India has finished as the top team in the ODI format. Since 2002. Australia has won the ICC ODI Championship Shield nine times while South Africa has got it on two occasions. In the latest ODI ranking for the cricket calendar year 2013-14, India has maintained its top billing with 119 points followed by Australia with 116 points and South Africa with 113 points.
