Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that consensus building is the only way forward in a country as diverse and complex as ours. Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the Gallantary Award function at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Dr. Singh said, Terrorism and extremism are vices which the Centre and the States have to work together to combat effectively. The Prime Minister also said that the Centre and the States are not on different sides but on the same side in combating Terrorism and Extremism.

Replying to a query on the recent terror attacks in Afghanistan, the Prime Minsiter said, it is much too presumptuous to say the NATO forces have failed in curbing the attacks. Dr. Singh said, he was not aware of the ground situation prevailing there. He also said, the NATO is claiming that their strategy is working.

Replying to a question on the outcome of the MCD elections in Delhi, The Prime Minister said, the MCD polls are local elections and fought on local issues. He said, in every election there are winners and losers and one has to accept it with grace.
