Connectivity important to ensure stability in Asia & world: V K Singh

Minister of State for External Affairs Gen V K Singh has said that connectivity is very important to ensure stability in Asia and the world. Speaking at the valedictory session of three day Raisina Dailogue in New Delhi this evening, Mr Singh said, connectivity is critical not only for economic growth and prosperity but also for security and stability in the region. <br/><br/>He said, the concept of connectivity has to be understood in a broader context beyond physical linkages. The Minister said, connectivity also includes coordinating financial, regulatory, legal, institutional aspects of different countries. He said, holistic view will contribute to building trust and facilitate smoother implementation of the agenda of connectivity. <br/><br/>The Minister also stressed the need of maintaining the sanctity and freedom of global commons including the seas. He said, India's approach to maritime security SAGAR stresses need to pool capacities while respecting individual needs. He added that Government's emphasis on cooperation in humanitarian and disaster response is similarly aimed at building trust and shared security.<br/><br/>He said, terrorism is the most pressing challenge facing modern and democratic societies. He said, coastal surveillance and sharing shipping information can help dealing with non traditional maritime threats.
