Congress wrests power from BJP in Karnataka

The Congress wrests power from the BJP after more than eight years in Karnataka. It has recorded a thumping majority by winning 119 seats and is leading in two seats. Among the prominent leaders who won from Congress are Siddaramaiah from Varuna, Shamnur Shivashankarappa from Davangere, D.K Shivakumar from Kanakapura and cine star Ambareesh from Mandya.

However Karnataka State Congress President Dr.G Parameshwar lost from Koratagere assembly constituency. BJP had to be contended with 40 seats. Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter will submit his resignation to the Governor H R Bharadwaj on Wednesday. Speaking to media persons he blamed anti-propaganda, anti-incumbency and infighting for their party debacle in the state. Janatha Dal(S) has improved its tally from 28 in 2008 election to 40 seats now.

Former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who resigned from BJP and formed Karnataka Janatha Paksha had to be contended with six seats. The Samajwadi party opened its account in the state with the help of former minister C P Yogeshwar who defeated Anitha Kumaraswamy of JD(S).
