The ruling Congress has won most of the seats in eight municipal and 18 nagar panchayats elections held recently. Except two seats, the counting process has been completed. Congress has won 133 out of 279 seats, while CPI and Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) won 10 seats each, Manipur People’s Party (MPP) won eight seats.An overwhelming 116 seats were won by independent candidates. Elections were held on January 3 and 91.38 per cent voting was recorded.Congress did well in most districts and at Imphal East won 14 out of 30, 33 in Imphal West out of 71,45 in Thoubal out of 93 and 41 in Bishenpur out of 93. In Thoubal district, constituency of Chief Minster O Ibobi Singh, Congress won 45, where as Indpendents won 44 seats.
