In Goa, Vishwajeet Rane of the Indian National Congress won the Valpoi Assembly by polls today. Rane defeated his rival Mr. Santosh Haldanker of the Bharatiya Janata Party with a margin of 8405 votes. Mr. Rane got 11642 votes while Haldanker secured 3237 votes. The counting of votes took place in Panaji this morning. The by polls were held on Monday. The by election was necessitated after Mr. Vishwajeet Rane an independent candidate from Valpoi Assembly Constituency had resigned to join Indian National Congress. Mr. Rane is presently the Health Minister in the Digambar Kamat government in Goa.
