The Congress today welcomed high GDP growth rate of 7.9 per cent during the second quarter of the year while expressing concern over the growing food and commodity prices. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Congress spokesperson Mrs. Jayanti Natrajan said that the growth is a clear indication of success of the fiscal stimulus and other measures taken by the government. Mrs. Natrajan however said that prices of essential commodities and food items should be monitored closely. Emphasising on the need for strict action against hoarders and strengthening of PDS system, Mrs. Natrajan urged the state governments to adopt stern measures.
