Congress urges for law to prevent honour killings

The Congress condemned the honour killings and called for a suitable law to prevent such killings. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said time has come to take a national view on the issue. <br/><br/>Responding to questions, she said the government can consider laws if the existing criminal laws of the land are not sufficient. She said, under any circumstances, violence and murders cannot be condoned by any civilised society. <br/><br/>Natarajan said action should be taken against those who are responsible for such killings. AIR Correspondent recalls that the Supreme Court has recently issued notices to the Centre and nine states for their views on honour killings.
