Congress, Trinamul oppose WB Govt’s move to bring new bills in Assembly

In West Bengal, opposition Trinamul Congress and Congress have strongly opposed the Government’s move to bring new bills in the Assembly after announcement of poll dates in the State. Opposition leader Partha Chatterjee said in Kolkata today that the Government is trying to introduce new bills in the House with political motive. Chatterjee said that they will seek the intervention of the Election Commission. While, the speaker of the Assembly Hasim Abdul Halim clarified that the Government has every right to introduce new bills in the house till they remain in the power. Halim said that the proceeding of the house does not come under the purview of the Model Code of Conduct of Election. The Speaker said that the Election Commission cannot intervene into the functioning of the legislature. AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that the session of the West Bengal Assembly begins on 10th of this month.
