Congress today accused Narendra Modi government of attempting to bury Lalit Modi travel documents scandal.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi this evening, party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Modi government has opted to proceed with extradition of Lalit Modi instead of taking the deportation route. Mr Surjewala said the government has taken this stance knowing that extradition will take 8 to 10 years by which time public memory of the issue will fade away.

He alleged that deportation case against Lalit Modi was annulled when External Affairs Minister helped him to get travel documents. Mr Surjewala demanded Prime Minister's statement on the issue, and sacking of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje for helping Modi to get travel documents. He said Prime Minister should tell the country when he will bring Lalit Modi back to the country.
