Results of by polls for assembly constituencies spread across seven states are pouring in.<br/><br/>In Kerala, Congress has won all the three seats in the by-polls held Saturday. In the Kannur assembly seat Mr. A.P. Abdullahkutty of the Congress won by a margin of 12,043 votes. He defeated his nearest rival Mr. M.V. Jairajan of the CPIM. In Ernakulam, Mr. Dominic Presentation of Congress humbled Mr. P.N. Seenulal of the CPM by 8620 votes. In Alappuzha assembly constituency, Congress candidate Mr. A.A. Shukkoor defeated Mr. G. Krishna Prasad of CPI by a margin of 4428 votes.<br/><br/>Expressing happiness over the UDF victory in the bye-election to the three assembly constituencies of Kerala , Oppostion Leader Mr Oommen Chandy said that the verdict is a clear indication of voters' displeasure with the ruling LDF Government. Addressing a press conference at Thiruvananthapuram, he said that the Chief Election Commssion has ensured transparent and peaceful election in Kerala by deploying central forces. Mr Chandy further added that the present victory of Congress adds to the party's responsibility towards the people of Kerala.<br/><br/>In Assam, the ruling Congress has captured both the Dhekiajuli and South Salmara Assembly seats from the main opposition Asom Gana Parishad and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in the bye-elections. The Congress nominee Mr. Bhimananda Tanti defeated his nearest Asom Gana Parishad rival Mr. Siba Charan Sahu by a margin of 21,547 votes in the Dhekiajuli constituency in Sonitpur district. Mr. Tanti got 54,487 votes while Mr. Sahu polled 32,940 votes.<br/><br/>In South Salmara constituency in Dhubri district, the Congress candidate former minister Wazed Ali Choudhury defeated his nearest AIUDF rival Abdur Rahman Ajmal by 6,553 votes.<br/><br/>AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that with winning the Dhekiajuli and South Salmara seats in favour of the Congress, the number of members of the ruling party in the 126-member State Legislative Assembly has gone up to 57.<br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, Congress and BJP both have won one seat each. Congress candidate Sujan Singh Pathania has defeated his BJP rival Baldev Raj Chaudhary by a margin 5,249 votes whereas BJP candidate Khushi Ram Balnahata has defeated his rival Congress candidate Manjeet Thakur in Rohru constituency by a margin of around 8,400 votes.<br/><br/>In Rajasthan, BJP candidate Ramesh Meena defeated Shivdayal Meena of Congress in Toda Bhim by a margin of 8277 votes. In Salumbar, congress candidate Basanti Devi Meena defeated the BJP candidate Amrit Lal Meena by a margin of 3098 votes.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, out of 10 assembly seats bye-election, Opposition Trinamul Congress and Congress alliance have bagged eight seats. While ruling Left Front partner Forward Bloc has got one an Independent candidate bagged another seat. Out of eight, Trinamul Congress has won in seven seats while Congress has got one seat.<br/><br/>In Chhattisgarh, the Congress has wrested the Vaishalinagar assembly seat in the lone assembly bye election. Congress candidate Mr. Bhajansingh Nirankari defeated his nearest BJP rival Mr. Jageswar Sahoo by a margin of 1228 votes.
