Congress has supported the objectives of Centre in demonetising 500 and 1000 rupee notes but said it will be counter productive if people with legitimate money face inconvenience and harassment.<br/><br/>Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, party leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, replacement of old notes by new ones should be done with the least inconvenience to the people, especially the poor, the middle class, the farmers, and daily-wage earners. <br/><br/>He said, the real test for government and banks will be tomorrow on how well they handle the implementation of the decision. Mr Chidambaram however questioned government's rationale behind introduction of 2000 rupee notes in place of 1000 notes.
