The opposition Congress during the one-day session of Nagaland assembly today staged a walkout alleging that the state government undermined the privileges enjoyed by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the house. The leader of the opposition Tokheho Yepthomi during the Zero hour drew the speaker’s attention to the chief secretary’s action over the report of Comptroller and Auditor General which was tabled on the last day of the budget session in March in the assembly. He pointed out that before the report was verified by the PAC and made its recommendations to the government, the chief secretary ordered through a notification formation of a high powered committee to verify the observations made by the CAG on utilization of fund by the state DGP office. The opposition leader alleged that the government’s action totally undermined the roles of PAC, saying that in the next session the Congress would bring a privilege motion against the chief secretary. Protesting the chief secretary’s action on the CAG report, the opposition boycotted the remaining business of the house for the day. In absence of the opposition members, chief minister Neiphiu Rio described the walkout as unfortunate saying the Congress members should have some patience since the report was already sent to the PAC for verification which is to start from November. The chief minister clarified that the three-member committee headed by additional chief secretary was notified on 7th February that is before tabling of the CAG report in the assembly on 28th March. Later, on completion of the business, the Speaker adjourned the session sine-die at 11:25 a.m
