In Chhattisgarh, the main Opposition Congress today staged state-wide protest against what it called the anti-farmer policies of the Raman Singh-led government. Party leaders and workers brought out rallies and organized sit-ins in different block and district headquarters in the state. They were demanding the pre-ponement of the date of paddy procurement from the 5th of next month to tomorrow and the payment of the 270 rupees per quintal paddy bonus to the farmers as promised by the BJP-led government.Party leaders including the former chief minister Mr. Ajit Jogi also demanded that in view of the turbulent period being experienced by the state at present, the statehood day celebration be restricted to one day only. Chhattisgarh will be observing its 11th foundation day tomorrow in a 5 days-long state-level function in capital Raipur.
