Congress on Friday strongly criticised the Mayawati led Uttar Pradesh government for alleged embezzlement of funds in Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Party Spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the charges are supported by documented proofs and UP government can not reject the allegations. Mr Singhvi said that protest by the UP government is a symbol of guilt.Meanwhile the UP Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday wrote a letter to the Prime Minister stating that irregularities cited by Union Minister Jairam Ramesh in implementation of MGNREGA in the state are politically motivated. Mr Ramesh had accused the Mayawati government of continuing inaction in instances of grave irregularities in the implementation of the MGNREGA. Refuting the charges levied by Mayawati, Mr Ramesh today said that there are deliberate instances of embezzlement of MGNREGA funds in UP.Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in New Delhi on Friday that the UPA government at the Centre and the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh both are equally responsible for misuse of MNREGA funds .
