Congress retains power in Mizoram

Congress has retained power in Mizoram. The party has secured absolute majority in the 40 member Assembly.
Results for twenty seven seats have been declared out of which Congress has secured 24 and is leading in five constituencies. The opposition Mizoram Democratic Alliance (MDA) managed to get three seats and it is leading in one Constituency. In another setback to the MDA, the Mizo National Front (MNF) President and former Chief Minister Zoram Thanga is trailing behind the Congress candidate T. Sangkunga
in east Tuipui.
