Congress retains power in Mizoram

Congress party has retained the power in Mizoram. Out of 40 seats so far Congress has won comfortably in 30 constituencies in the just concluded 7th Mizoram Assembly Election. The three Opposition pre-poll alliance party, Mizoram Democratic Alliance (MDA) managed to get 6 seats. So far the ZNP, BJP and other political parties have failed to make their representation in the State Assembly.
The Chief Minister Lalthanhawla is poised to continue as the Leader of the house for the second term consecutively. Prominent Winners so far includes Chief Minister Mr Lal Thanhawla, Home Minister R Lalzirliana and Health Minister Mr Lalrinliana Sailo while the rulling Congress Finance Minister Mr. Liansailova failed to retain his seat in Aizawl North II Contituency.
In a major set back for the biggest opposition Mizoram Democratic Alliance, the MNF President and former Chief Minister Mr Zoramthanga has lost West Tuipui Constituency by over 700 votes. His opponent, Congress Candidate Mr. T. Sangkunga is the ex- President of Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA). In Lunglei West Constituency the sitting opposition leader and the MNF Vice President Dr R Lalthangliana, too lost the race to INC debutant Mr.Chalrosanga. Also, the sitting MLA and President of ZNP Mr. Lalduhawma has lost from two constituencies.
