In Manipur, Congress recorded a landslide win by returning 42 of its candidates to the 60 member assembly. Trinamul Congress opened its account by winning seven seats in its maiden contest.
MSCP bagged five, Naga People's Front four and NCP and LJP one each. State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh created a hatric and other prominent winners include MPCC President Gaikhangam, Commerce and Industries Minister Y Erabot Singh of Congress. Losers include – MPP President Dr. Nimaichand Luwang, NCP state president and leader of the opposition in the assembly Radhabinod Koijam and Health Minister L Jayantakumar.
