Congress retains Ashok Chavan & Bhupinder Singh Hooda

The Congress party has decided to retain Ashok Chavan as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the Chief Minister of Haryana. A decision to this effect was taken by the Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi after consultations with AICC observers who attended Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meetings in Mumbai and Chandigarh.<br/>Defence Minister A K Antony told media persons in New Delhi last night that Mrs Gandhi has approved the name of Mr Chavan as leader of the Congress Legislature Party, CLP in Maharashtra. Our Mumbai correspondent reports 51-year old Chavan will be sworn-in as Maharashtra Chief Minister for the second term only after Tuesday when Congress' alliance partner NCP elects its legislature party leader who will be the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.<br/>The decision to allow Bhupinder Singh Hooda to continue as Chief Minister of Haryana for the second successive term was announced by Union Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who along with other AICC observers Mohsina Kidwai and B K Hariprasad, met Ms Gandhi yesterday and conveyed the views of the elected MLAs of Haryana. AICC sources said that the Hooda government will be sworn in today. Our correspondent reports that Congress is claiming the support of Seven independent candidates s <br/>In Arunachal Pradesh, Congress Legislature Party has elected Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu as its leader. The decision was taken by the legislators after a six hour marathon meeting in Itanagar yesterday. Later Mr Dorjee Khandu along with the Congress legislators went to the Raj Bhawan and staked claim to form the new government. Our correspondent reports that the swearing in ceremony of the new Cabinet will take place at the Raj Bhawan this morning. <br/><br/>
