The Congress party has resolved to fight against all forces that spread religious hatred and polarize people on communal lines. A resolution adopted by the All India Congress Committee in New Delhi on Tuesday came down heavily on the RSS and its sister organizations saying the recent revelations have exposed their true character. It said that the investigations have indicated the involvement of the members of these organizations in terrorist activities. The tone and tenor of the session was set by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who reiterated the party’s resolve to continue its fight against communalism and fanaticism of all types.Addressing the delegates of the AICC session she said that the party is committed to upholding the secular fabric of the country. She also made it clear that the Judgment of the Allahbad High Court on Ram Janam Bhumi Babri Masjid title suit is in no way condones the demolition of the disputed structure. She said it was a shameful and criminal act and those responsible for it should be brought to book. She said, it is a tribute to the people that peace and harmony prevailed after the judgment.Sonia Gandhi said inflation remains a serious challenge. Calling for making Public Distribution System more effective and efficient, She said while efforts toward growth have to be maintained, there is need to ensure that the benefits reach the weakest sections of society. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh also reiterated the government ‘s commitment to the work for the Aam Aadmi. He said that the government, while maintaining the high growth rate, has taken a number of steps to see that weaker sections, minorities, women and the poor are benefitted from various programmes. He appealed to the congress workers to bring the party closer to the Aam Aadmi. Finance Minister Minister Pranab Mukherjees also touched upon the issues.Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that only congress can unite the 'two Hindustans' – the rich and the poor of the nation. He said if the poor people have move forward – the Prime Minister's strategy for economic growth is a necessity. He said people used to say that Congress is finished in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. He said the party is not finished and it can be easily rekindled by learning the problems of the poor and working for them.The statement called on the government to redouble its efforts to control Inflation. Prices of essential commodities should remain at affordable levels. It says that the role of state governments in this is absolutely essential.On Jammu and Kashmir, the party said welcomed the appointment of the interlocutors to carry forward the process of dialogue.On left wing extremism, it says that armed struggle against the state by any section of society cannot be tolerated but also called upon the government to undertake time bound implementation of the integrated Action plan for these tribals and backward areas.
