<span style="color: #222222;">In a neck to neck fight in civic bodies election in Chhattisgarh, Congress recorded overall lead against the nearest rival BJP. Out of the 2840 wards in 151 urban bodies, Congress emerged victorious on one thousand 283 wards, while BJP managed to get one thousand 131 wards.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Elections to 10 municipal corporations, 38 municipal councils and 103 Nagar panchayats were held on December 21. Congress has secured majority in 7 out of ten municipal corporations. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">There was a tough contest in 38 municipal councils. Congress dominated in 18 while BJP in 17. Out of the 103 Nagar Panchayats, Congress got majority in 48, while BJP in 40.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Many independents have also won the civic polls-throwing up the possibility of independents holding the key in many corporations, municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">This time there is no direct election of mayors and chairmen of other civic bodies as the state government enacted a legislation to revert back to the practice of their indirect election. As per the new rules, mayors and chairpersons will be elected by corporators and not directly by people. </span><br />
