Congress poised to return to power in Karnataka

The Congress is poised to return to power in Karnataka with the party almost set to get a majority in the new Assembly. It has bagged 103 seats out of 198 results declared so far and leading in 14 other constituencies. There has been a neck and neck fight between the BJP and the JD(S). The BJP has won 40 seats and leading in 2 while the JD(S) has bagged 35 seats and leading in 5. KJP won 5 seats and leading in 2. Others have won 15 seats and leading in 1. In Belgaum district, all the results of 18 constituencies have been announced. BJP has won 8, Congress 6, KJP 1, BSR (Congress) 1 and Independents 2.

Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar of BJP retains Hubli-Dharwad (Central) constituency. Janata Dal Secular State President, .D.Kumaraswamy has won the Ramanagaram Constituency. However, his wife Anita Kumaraswamy has been defeated in Channapatna Constituency by Samajwadi Party Candidate, C.P.Yogeshwar.

Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate, R. Ashoka has bagged Padmanabanagar seat.

BSR Congress Party Chief and former Minister, B. Sriramulu has won the Bellary Constituency.

KPCC President, Dr. G. Parameshwara has been defeated in Koratagere Reserved Constituency by Sudhakara Lal, JDS.

Among the prominent candidates leading are: Senior Congress leader, Siddaramaiah in Varuna Constituency, former Chief Minister B.S.Yaddyurappa in Shikaripura Constituency and former Union Minister M.H.Ambreesh of Congress in Mandya Constituency. Minister in the outgoing Assembly, Govind M. Karjol and Speaker of the outgoing Assembly K.G.Bopaiah, both BJP are leading.

Former President of State BJP, K.S.Eshwarappa and former Higher Education Minister and BJP candidate, S.A.Ramadas are trailing. KPCC President, Dr. G. Parameshwar is trailing in Koratgere Reserved Constituency.

Former Union Minister C.M.Ibrahim lost in Bhadrawati constituency to his nearest rival Appaji Gowda, JDS. Former Chief Minister S.Bangarappa's Son Madhu Bangarappa, JDS has won Sorab constituency. He defeated his elder brother S.Kumar Bangarappa, Congress.

Congress candidate Dr. Ajay Dharam Singh, son of former Chief Minister Dharam Singh has won from Jewargi constituency.

In Holenarasipura, JDS candidate, H.D. Revanna, sitting MLA and son of former Prime Minister, H.D.Deve Gowda is leading.

In Honnali, Shantana Gowda is leading. In Kapu, Lalaji R. Mendon of BJP is leading over his Congress rival Vinay Kumar Sorake. In Karkal, H.Gopal Bhandary of Congress is leading and in Kundapura, Srinivasa Shetty, Independent is leading. In Mangalore, U T Khader of Congress is leading over his BJP rival Chandrahas Ullalla.

Former Union Minister and Congress Candidate, M.H.Ambareesh has won the Mandya Constituency. Former Union Minister V.Srinivasa Prasad of Congress has won the Nanjangud Constituency.

Priyanka M. Kharje son of Union Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress has won from Chittapur Constituency. He defeated BJP candidate Valmiki Naik.
