The Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has said, the Congress always stood for secular values and described the party as a national revolution which led the country to independence from the imperialist rule. Addressing partymen on the occasion of the 125th formation day of the Indian National Congress in New Delhi on Monday, she said, the party has always promoted secularism through a consensual approach. It has always stood for protection of rights of the poor. She said, the party has also played a major role in laying the foundation of modern India. <br/><br/>Mrs. Gandhi was speaking at a function where she and the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh laid the foundation of the Indira Gandhi Bhavan. It will be the new headquarters of the AICC at Kotla Road in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Manmohan Singh said, the focus of his government was on the welfare of the poor and protection of human rights. He said, economic stability has also been the focus area of the party and it is their endeavour to fulfill the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi in the 21st century.<br/><br/>The Congress has drawn up elaborate programmes for the year-long celebrations and its units at the block, district and state levels have been asked to hold special functions to galvanise the party cadres.<br/>
