Congress objective was to block GST bill, Swaraj was excuse: Parrikar

Holding the Congress responsible for the wash-out of the entire monsoon session of Parliament, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that the main objective of Congress behind the prolonged disruption was to stall the GST bill which if passed would have given a major boost to the country's economy.

Addressing a press conference in Dehradun today he said that the clamour for Sushma Swaraj's resignation was just an excuse and the congress's main game plan behind disrupting Parliament was to block the GST bill. He said that a uniform taxation system like the GST would have put brakes on black money generation and boosted the country's economy which the Congress did not want as it would have added another feather in the cap of Narendra Modi's government.

The Defence Minister also said that the positive indications that are going out of the country under Prime Minister's leadership have not gone down well with the Congress which has still not been able to swallow its defeat in the Lok sabha polls last year. Accusing the previous UPA government at the Centre of avoiding stern action against Lalit Modi he stated that had the UPA Government been serious about acting against him it would have initiated criminal proceedings against him under the money laundering act, not FEMA.
