A newly-elected Congress legislator Ram Kumar Chaudhary, who was booked in a murder case and had been evading arrest, finally surrendered in a Panchkula court today, officials said. He was produced in a Panchkula court and was sent to six-day police remand , police told.
He was elected from Doon constituency in Solan district in recent election and is among four suspects in the murder of a 24-year-old Young lady Jyoti, in Panchkula in Haryana on Nov 22.
He remained absent from the oath taking ceremony of the legislators in the first session of the state assembly in Dharamsala today.
Chief Minister Virbhdra Singh admitted that it was an embarrassing position for the Congress party and it would have been much better if the legislator had surrendered earlier. His arrest will no affect on the stability of the government,the chief minister told reporters .
